COMMUNITY MINISTRIES

“....“Which commandment is the first of all?”  Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:28-31.

FOOD CUPBOARD MINISTRY

“As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. "Bring them here to me," he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass...:” Matthew 14:15 – 21 (NIV)

Purpose of Ministry:

The purpose of the ministry is to respond to the need of the community by providing food and other assistance for those who are less fortunate than others.

Days, Times and Location: The third Saturday of the month at 7:30 am in the Fellowship Hall.

PRISON OUTREACH MINISTRY

“Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” Hebrews 13:3 (NIV)

Purpose of Ministry:

The prison ministry's goal is to present the word of God to those who are incarcerated; to encourage them, pray for them and their families and to lead those who are unsaved to Christ. Through the prison ministry we continually express our concern for those who are imprisoned and need the care and compassion of Christians as expressed in Hebrews 13:3.

Days and Times: The third and fifth Thursdays at 7:00 pm

GIRL SCOUTS Purpose

“In Girl Scouts, girls from the ages of 5 years to 18 years of age discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.”

Mission Statement:

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place!

Day, Meeting Times and Location Tuesdays from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm during the months of September through June in Fellowship Hall and Lunchroom

GARDEN MINISTRY

The mission and purpose of the ministry will be to help the church maintain and continue to supply the community with fruits and vegetables.  It also will continue as a place to fellowship with the community and people from different nationalities.  The ministry will be responsible for signing up gardeners, ensuring that there is ample water for the gardeners and that the garden is available for use by the gardeners.  The ministry will also become a member of the Harvest Program sponsored by PHS.

The Growing Together Garden (2500 Reed St. Lot) is currently being sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) the Church of the Redeemer Baptist (COTRB) and the Nationalities Services Center (NSC).  At the end of this growing season, NSC will no longer be involved in the garden.  PHS will remain and continue to supply the garden with seedlings, soil and garden support. Prior to the departure of NSC, PHS and NSC will help with the transition by supplying the names of the current gardeners and any procedures needed for COTRB to continue with the garden.  In order to maintain the PHS side of the garden, we are proposing that a Garden Ministry be formed.
